Since being confirmed earlier this year, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Kristi Noem has made targeting foreign gang members one of her top priorities.

An example of that fact came this week when DHS announced the capture of an alleged MS-13 kingpin.

Gang leader wanted for five murders

According to the New York Post, an ICE press release explained the as yet unnamed individual appears on El Salvador's "Top 100 Most Wanted."

The suspect was reportedly apprehended in Nebraska on Wednesday and has been accused of the "aggravated homicide of five victims, attempted aggravated homicide, deprivation of liberty, and terrorist organization affiliation."

Mark Zito serves as ICE Homeland Security Investigations special agent in Charge of Kansas City, and he heralded the capture in a statement.

"These illegal aliens didn’t just sneak into our country, they brought with them a legacy of violence, terror, and death," Zito declared.

"They thought they could hide in America’s heartland, but they were sadly mistaken, not on our watch," the federal law enforcement agent stressed.

In addition to the alleged kingpin, ICE also arrested Rene Saul Escobar Ochoa, someone it described as being an "MS-13 gang member and foreign terrorist" associate who is wanted for multiple crimes in El Salvador.

Those alleged crimes include extortion, imprisonment, and drug trafficking as well as "ordering gang members to commit multiple murders."

Acting ICE head: Either support his agents "or get out of the way"

Meanwhile, the Post noted how acting ICE Director Todd M. Lyons slammed those who have tried to hinder the work of his agency.

"When ICE agents move in to make an arrest, it is extremely important that the public not interfere," Lyons said in a statement of his own.

"The misinformation, and sometimes blatant lies, being spread around the country could result in someone stepping into a federal operation and suddenly finding themselves face-to-face with a killer who has nothing to lose," he pointed out.

"Our ICE officers and agents are protecting your neighborhoods, even when you don’t know the threat is there, so either support them, or get out of the way," Lyons added.
