Kristi Noem counters claims that FEMA dyidn't respond fast enough to Texas flooding catastrophy

Democrats have already used the catastrophic and deadly Texas floods to demonize Republicans and blame the natural disaster on people like President Donald Trump and his top Cabinet officials, especially the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

According to the Daily Mail, Noem is facing criticism over the number of people who have been injured and killed in the Texas floods, with Democrats blaming her for cuts at the Federal Emergency Management Agency that required her signature.

The accusations are wild and asinine, at the very least, and Noem, along with top Trump administration officials, have already fired back.

Some officials at FEMA told the left-leaning CNN that certain bureaucratic obstacles prevented first responders from more swiftly responding to the flooding situation.

Noem firing back

The accusations have been addressed and responded to by Noem and others as Democrats scramble to find any excuse in the book to politicize the tragedy that has affected so many thousands of families.

The Daily Mail noted:

DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said the secretary did not need to initially authorize additional FEMA resources to help respond to the floods because it used other DHS search and rescue assets – including tapping assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection.

The reference was to a rule that requires Noem to sign off on FEMA grant requests that are over $100,00o.

"FEMA is shifting from bloated, DC-centric dead weight to a lean, deployable disaster force that empowers state actors to provide relief for their citizens," McLaughlin said.

She added, "The old processes are being replaced because they failed Americans in real emergencies for decades."

The outlet added:

Officials claims the $100,000 threshold for special secretary permission is essentially 'pennies' when it comes to the soaring cost of emergency response, which can routinely inch its way into the billions.

Counter claims

An anonymous longtime FEMA official reportedly told CNN that it disputes what DHS officials are saying about the agency's ability to tackle natural disasters.

"We were operating under a clear set of guidance: lean forward, be prepared, anticipate what the state needs, and be ready to deliver it. That is not as clear of an intent for us at the moment," the official reportedly told CNN.

Others on the left, along with their media allies, insist that President Donald Trump and former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk are responsible for their perceived lack of proper response to the flooding, which has killed over 100 people.

It's not surprising that Democrats would use such a tragedy for their own political gain, and they'll continue to do so for the next natural disaster and so on.
