Trump pushes back on influencers demanding Pam Bondi's resignation

The Trump administration's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case has opened a dramatic rift in the MAGA movement, with online influencers stoking fury over a supposed cover-up of the truth - while President Trump urges supporters to move on.

At the center of the firestorm is Attorney General Pam Bondi, who has faced scrutiny after the DOJ officially concluded that there are no new bombshells to add to the public's knowledge of Epstein's crimes, which have captivated many on the right since Epstein's suicide in 2019.

Bondi targeted by influencers

Bondi was the target of criticism from prominent MAGA influencers at a Turning Point USA summit on Friday, where right-wing podcaster Megyn Kelly, among others, lit into Bondi for hyping up the theories she is now trying to shut down.

"She has never missed an opportunity to go on television and dangle sweet nothings that might be coming your way, try to lead you to believe that she’s got it,” Kelly said.

The DOJ's findings, laid out in a short memo this month, poured cold water on conspiracy theories about Epstein's death and a secret "client list" that many believe the pedophile kept containing blackmail on powerful figures.

During a Cabinet meeting last week, Bondi tried to clarify past comments suggesting she had a client list sitting on her desk, saying she meant a general case file.

Bondi has also fallen under scrutiny for teasing "phase one" of the Epstein files earlier this year, inviting influencers to the White House to receive binders that contained nothing new.

“Pam Bondi brought in some of our best influencers, Jack Posobiec, Libs of TikTok,” Kirk complained during a discussion with Kelly Friday.

“And she gave them these [Epstein] binders. And she humiliated them.”

Trump defends Bondi

Some of Bondi's critics say that she misled Trump's base with false hype, while others have accused her of hiding something nefarious.

To some Trump supporters, the administration's handling of the Epstein case marks a betrayal of Trump's promise to expose the "Deep State." But Trump has dismissed the persistent interest in Epstein as a distraction, and he has defended Bondi, a former Florida prosecutor whom Trump has known for years.

“They’re all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB! We’re on one Team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening. We have a PERFECT Administration,” Trump wrote in a post on his platform TruthSocial on Saturday.

Dems seize on divide

Trump has been reluctant to fire Cabinet members after the frequent insubordination and chaos that marked his first term.

Even Steve Bannon, known for his bombastic commentary, has fallen short of calling for Bondi's resignation, saying it would cause needless turmoil.

"Yes, you could have Dan Bongino or Pam Bondi resign and make a scene, but that just creates turmoil,” Bannon said at the Turning Point USA summit. “What we need right now is not to upend DOJ or FBI. We need to get to the bottom of Epstein. Because Epstein is the key that picks the lock.”

Opportunistic Democrats have seized on the divide in Trump's movement, with Democrats embracing unfounded claims that Trump is named in the Epstein files.
