AOC could be subject to suit after Trump comments
The online tiff between President Donald Trump and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is ratcheting up after some more inflammatory comments by the East Coast millennial.
Ocasio-Cortez, referred to frequently as “AOC,” took to social media to share her thoughts on the recent Department of Justice announcement that there would be no Epstein client list released, as Fox News reported.
According to AOC, this is likely because Trump is a “rapist,” a comment that some believe could land her in legal trouble.
The accusations
“Wow, who would have thought that electing a rapist would have complicated the release of the Epstein Files?” Ocasio-Cortez said in her post on X, formerly Twitter.
Her comments were thought to be in reference to the 2023 court case where Trump was found liable of sexual abuse against writer E. Jean Carroll.
The president, however, was not found liable for rape, which would have been necessary for AOC’s comments to be true, leading some to believe that the New York representative might be guilty of libel.
Legal analyst Phil Holloway offered his opinion, saying in his own post to X, “The President should sue AOC into bankruptcy. I realize she’s trying to raise her profile, but this is way way too far.”
From lawmakers
Several lawmakers also weighed in, saying that the case against AOC could be a strong one:
"Even under the ridiculously lenient standards of NY Times v. Sullivan, you’ve managed to incur defamation liability Wow," Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) posted to X in response.
Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) had a slightly different perspective, saying, "Why didn’t you guys release the Epstein files over the last 4 years? Maybe you were too busy covering for Joe Biden… or, could it have something to do with another former Democrat President?"
YourVoice America Bill Mitchell also commented toward the congressman, saying, “Well, we have grounds for a huge defamation suit here, you idiot because Donald Trump has never been indicted for rape, much less convicted.”
From Trump’s camp
Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung responded, batting away AOC’s most recent rage-bait, saying, “AOC likes to play pretend like she’s from the block, but in reality, she’s just a sad, miserable blockhead who is trying to overcompensate for her lack of self-confidence that has followed her for her entire life.
“Instead, she should get some serious help for her obvious and severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted her pea-sized brain,” he told the Daily Beast.
It is as yet unclear what Trump will do in response to the congresswoman’s comments, but he has in the past proven he’s not afraid to take his frustrations before a judge in a court of law.
