Barack and Michelle Obama push back on divorce rumors in joint appearance
Speculation has swirled for some time about the future of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama's marriage.
However, Mr. and Mrs. Obama addressed those rumors as they claimed to come clean about their relationship in a recent video.
Mrs. Obama says she hasn't thought of divorce for "one moment"
According to the Daily Mail, the former president and first lady jointly appeared last week on the "IMO" podcast that Michelle Obama cohosts with her brother, Craig Robinson.
"What, you guys like each other?" Robinson joked before Mrs. Obama laughingly responded with, "'Oh yeah, the rumor mill."
The former first lady then adopted a more serious tone and declared, "There hasn't been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quitting my man."
"And we've had some really hard times. So we had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I have become a better person because of the man I'm married to," she continued.
Mrs. Obama did not join her husband for events in Washington
For his part, the former president insisted that he has largely been out of the loop when it comes to media gossip, remarking, "These are the kinds of things that I just miss, right?"
"So I don't even know this stuff's going on. And then somebody will mention it to me and I'm all like, 'What are you talking about?'" Mr. Obama added.
Questions concerning the Obamas arose earlier this year when Fox News reported that the former first lady did not accompany her husband to former President Jimmy Carter's state funeral or President Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony.
What's more, Mrs. Obama also raised eyebrows earlier this month with comments that she made to actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus during an episode of her podcast.
Columnist described Mrs. Obama's words as being "eerie"
"This stage in life for me, for me personally, is the first time that I’ve been completely free," Mrs. Obama told Louis-Dreyfus at one point.
"Where every choice that I make in my life is not about my husband, not about his career, not about what my kids need or where they’re going. It’s totally about me," she stressed.
Those statements were picked up on by Western Journal contributor Samuel Short, who described the former first lady's words as "eerie."
"The word 'free' can give rise to a lot of speculation. Happily married couples don’t often talk about being 'free' from their spouse," Short pointed out.
