Conservatives and Democrats team up to access Epstein files
Critical changes in position by President Donald Trump have created unlikely bedfellows in Washington as the Epstein drama hits a fever pitch.
Epstein, a well-connected and highly revered financier-turned-human trafficker, reportedly died of suicide in late 2019 while in federal custody, as The Daily Mail reported.
However, many are unhappy at the news from the Trump administration, the DOJ, and the FBI that it was indeed a suicide, and that there was no “client list” to be released to the public.
Now, Republicans and Democrats seem to be joining forces to dig into the intelligence community’s files about the late Epstein.
Unlikely friends
Progressive Democrat Ro Khanna and libertarian-leaning Republican Thomas Massie are working together to introduce the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
The legislation is meant to compel Attorney General Pam Bondi to allow public access to all unclassified materials related to Epstein.
The resolution is backed by an interesting mix of House members, including socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and “Squad” member Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), as well as Rep. Boebert (R-CO), Nancy Mace (R-SC), and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
Who the resolution needs
Khanna said late last week during a media appearance that the resolution was backed by all 212 of his Democratic colleagues in the House.
If the support from Democrats continues, there could be passage of the bill if there are as few as 10 Republican co-sponsors for the legislation.
That would mean the bill could easily pass the 218 threshold it would need out of 435 seats to pass the lower chamber of Congress.
That being said, there is still a chance that a number of Republicans will gang up to attempt to keep the information from being released, strictly because Trump appears to want it kept under wraps.
Another side to the story
Another side to the story emerged when a former intelligence officer asserted that the Epstein files won’t ever be released because the CIA won’t let it go public.
According to ex-CIA operative John Kiriakou, the documents connected to Epstein have valuable intelligence information that cannot be released, partially because the public demanded to see it.
Kiriakou asserts that Epstein was employed by Israel’s intelligence service, Mossad, and said that, “Jeffrey Epstein, in my view, is a textbook case of an access agent.
"If you are a foreign intelligence service and you want information from ... important people, you want secret information from them—you’re not going to recruit them,” he said.
