Trump says he'll pull stadium deal if 'Commanders' don't switch back to 'Redskins'
When the Washington Redskins -- a popular NFL team -- changed their name to the "Commanders" after buckling under "woke" pressure from the radical left, many were left with a sour taste for the team's ownership.
One of those who weren't happy with the change was President Donald Trump, and according to Fox News, Trump has floated the idea of a "restriction" for the Commanders if they fail to bring back the Redskins name and ditch the woke Commanders renaming.
The president has been a strong proponent of bringing back the traditional team names that were canceled mostly under the administrations of Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
He has plenty of support, too. Many Native American tribes have spoken out about their feelings on the Redskins name, among others, and have expressed that they're just fine with it.
What did he say?
Trump, in his usual fashion, held nothing back in a Truth Social post in expressing his feelings on the matter, also taking aim at the Cleveland Guardians. That team also buckled to the cancel woke mob.
The president threatened to pull back from making a deal for a new stadium for the Commanders in Washington D.C. if they don't consider bringing the Redskins name back.
"My statement on the Washington Redskins has totally blown up, but only in a very positive way," Trump wrote in a second Truth Social post.
He added, "I may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskins,’ and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, ‘Washington Commanders,’ I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington. The Team would be much more valuable, and the Deal would be more exciting for everyone."
Trump, obviously fired up about the issue overall, also called out the Cleveland Guardians, who were forever known as the MLB team the Cleveland Indians.
"Cleveland should do the same with the Cleveland Indians. The Owner of the Cleveland Baseball Team, Matt Dolan, who is very political, has lost three Elections in a row because of that ridiculous name change," Trump added.
"What he doesn’t understand is that if he changed the name back to the Cleveland Indians, he might actually win an Election. Indians are being treated very unfairly. MAKE INDIANS GREAT AGAIN (MIGA)!"
"Immediately"
Earlier in the day, Trump demanded that the team go back to the original Redskins name.
"The Washington ‘Whatever’s’ should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team. There is a big clamoring for this," he wrote.
It'll be interesting to see if the team complies. Perhaps it'll depend on how bad they really want that new, shiny stadium?
