New poll finds strong majority approval for Trump's illegal immigration policies
Many elected Democrats and leftist activists have been up in arms in opposition to President Donald Trump's efforts to quell illegal immigration with strongly secured borders and deportations of migrants in the country without authorization, especially if they've committed other crimes.
Yet, a recent major poll showed that Trump's immigration policies are among his most popular and have the support of a majority of the American people, according to Breitbart.
In fact, around three-quarters of Americans support deporting criminal illegal migrants, including a majority of Democratic voters, and around six in ten approve of the efforts to shut down the nation's southern border, including roughly one-third of Democrats.
Illegal immigration remains a top issue for most Americans
The Harvard CAPS/HarrisX poll recently surveyed a diverse sample of 2,044 registered voters nationwide and, among other findings, discovered that President Trump's immigration policies garnered 50% approval, the highest rating of any of his policies.
The pollsters also found that immigration was the second most important issue nationally, trailing only price inflation, and ranked as the third most important on the personal level.
They further learned that there is broad support for the overarching policies of deporting illegal migrants who've committed crimes, 79%, and for discouraging future illegal immigration with a fully secured border, 70% -- both of which included majority support from Democratic voters.
Many of Trump's immigration policies are broadly popular
Looking at the immigration issue more closely, the Harvard/Harris pollsters revealed that 60% of voters support the actions President Trump has taken thus far to close the southern border, including 89% of Republicans, 55% of independents, and 34% of Democrats.
As for the efforts thus far to apprehend and deport criminal illegal aliens, there was 75% support for what is being done, including from 93% of Republicans, 70% of independents, and 59% of Democrats.
Further, 79% of Americans supported deporting illegal migrants who've been convicted of other crimes in the U.S. after they've served their sentences, which included 71% of Democrats.
The pollsters also found that the Democrat-led "sanctuary" jurisdictions that protect criminal illegal aliens are deeply unpopular, as 65% oppose the efforts of those jurisdictions to block the deportations of criminal illegals, including 52% of Democrats, while 70% believe state and local police should cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, including 51% of Democratic voters.
Trump's immigration policies are working
Earlier this month, U.S. Customs and Border Protection released the numbers for June and revealed the "historic" success in their mission that was directly attributable to President Trump's tough immigration policies.
That included a historic monthly low of just 25,228 total encounters with illegal migrants nationwide, a new historic low of just 8,024 U.S. Border Patrol apprehensions nationwide -- 6,072 of which occurred on the southern border, which was 15% lower than the previous record low set in March -- with zero parole releases for the month, as compared to 27,766 illegal migrants paroled into the nation's interior in June 2024 under former President Joe Biden's open borders policies.
Meanwhile, just this week, the White House announced, "Across the country, arrests of criminal illegal immigrants have soared as President Donald J. Trump makes good on his promise to rid our communities of these threats to public safety -- making sure illegal immigrant killers, rapists, gangbangers, and other violent criminals find no safe harbor."
That release included links to news reports from states across the country that showed how ICE arrests had doubled, tripled, or even quintupled since Trump took office, in comparison to the Biden years.
