Some civilians were in for a military-style surprise this weekend when fighter jets were scrambled to demonstrate their terrible mistake.

As it turns out, flares were fired, and jets were sent to intercept a civilian plane that entered restricted airspace in New Jersey on Sunday, as Fox News reported.

The airspace in question happened to be over President Donald Trump’s property in Bedminster, New Jersey, and according to the Aerospace Defense Command, it wasn’t just one violation.

Not just one

The Aerospace Defense Command said there were seven aircraft that violated the New Jersey restricted airspace this weekend.

Three civilian planes flew into the restricted area on Saturday, and another four violated it on Sunday, including the one that was intercepted by a fighter aircraft, per NORAD.

“General aviation pilots are reminded that TFR procedures are mandatory and to verify all Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs) and Fly Informed before every flight,” NORAD said in their statement on the incident.

They went on to clarify how they would enforce restricted airspace, saying, “NORAD employs a layered defense network ... The identification and monitoring of the civilian aircraft demonstrate how NORAD executes its aerospace warning and control missions for the United States and Canada.”

Earlier this month

This isn’t the first time a civilian aircraft has entered restricted space where Trump could have been a target, or even the first time this month.

Over the 4th of July holiday weekend, when Trump was vacationing in New Jersey, an aircraft had to be “headbutted” out of restricted airspace.

According to the report from NORAD at the time, the aircraft was “escorted” out of the area with a “headbutt” maneuver, used to get the pilot’s attention and push him toward an acceptable area.

What is a "headbutt"?

The maneuver used, called a “headbutt,” includes a military pilot flying right in front of the civilian at close range.

This will allow them to make visual contact and signal to the pilot to move away.

These events come after several attempts have been made on Trump’s life while he was a candidate for the presidency.
