Trump says VP Vance most likely to lead MAGA movement in 2028

It's not even 2026, and many in the political world are speculating on potential presidential nominees for the 2028 presidential election, especially the question of who will replace President Donald Trump after he terms out.

According to the Daily Mail, President Trump himself weighed in on the big question this week, suggesting that as it stands, Vice President J.D. Vance seems to be the best bet to carry on the "America First" MAGA torch in to the future.

Trump's thoughts on the matter came during an executive order signing ceremony this week in the South Court Auditorium as he spoke to reporters about recent comments made by Sec. of State Marco Rubio.

Rubio had previously said that Vance would make a great nominee for the Republican Party in the 2028 presidential election.

What happened?

Leave it to Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy to ask Trump the big questions and receive legitimate answers.

"You could clear the entire Republican field right now," Doocy told the president at the ceremoney. "Do you agree that the heir-apparent to MAGA is J.D. Vance?"

"Well, I think most likely," Trump answered. "In all fairness, he's the vice president. I think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with J.D. in some form."

"I also think we have incredible people, some of the people on the stage right here. So it's too early, obviously, to talk about it, but certainly he's doing a great job," he added. "And he would be probably favored at this point."

Trump referenced the "incredible people" he also had on stage that make up the Olympics Task Force, many of whom are Cabinet heads, including DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. US Attorney General Pam Bondi was also on stage.

The Daily Mail noted:

The Olympics task force is made up of a number of Cabinet heads, including Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who was among those Trump considered last year to be his new VP.

The former South Dakota governor's name has long been thrown around as a potential presidential contender.

Rubio agrees

Sec. Rubio, last month, dismissed the idea of taking the lead in the 2028 election cycle. He also threw his support and confidence behind Vice President Vance.

"I think JD Vance would be a great nominee if he decides he wants to do that," he recently told Lara Trump during a Fox News interview.

VP Vance still remains extremely popular and well-liked within the MAGA movement.

It's very likely he'll be the next one, unless President Trump finds a way to gain the support to amend the Constitution and run for a third term.
