Nancy Pelosi fighting 'at the national level' for transgender surgery on children

Earlier this year, America's highest judicial body voted to uphold a Tennessee law which prohibits the sexual mutilation of children.

That fact didn't sit well with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who announced this week that she is fighting for transgender surgery "at the national level."

Pelosi continues transgender surgery fight

According to Fox News, the California congresswoman's remarks came on Thursday while touring the San Francisco VA Medical Center.

At one point, Pelosi was asked about a recent decision to pause so-called "gender-affirming care" for minors by Kaiser Permanente, which is one of California's largest healthcare providers.

"That is something I’m working for at the national level, and we are hoping we can have gender-affirming care for our trans kids," Pelosi replied.

"It’s a sad thing for us… I don’t know what effect we can have nationally with what we have going on in the White House and in Congress," she added.

The longtime California Democrat went on to describe the situation as being "really sad" before adding that a transgender-pride flag is displayed outside of her Capitol Hill office.

Democrats sue Trump adminstration

Fox News pointed out that Pelosi is hardly alone in her stance, as can be seen in the fact that Democrat officials from a dozen states have filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

They allege that the Trump administration is attempting to impose a de facto nationwide ban on transgender surgery for minors by threatening healthcare providers with "baseless criminal charges."

In addition to President Donald Trump, the lawsuit also names Attorney General Pam Bondi, along with the Department of Justice (DOJ) as defendants.

New York Attorney General Letitia James is among the plaintiffs, and she has accused the Trump administration of "running a cruel and targeted harassment campaign against providers who offer lawful, lifesaving care to children."

James: Trump "putting countless lives at risk"

"This administration is ruthlessly targeting young people who already face immense barriers just to be seen and heard, and are putting countless lives at risk in the process," Fox News quoted James as saying.

"In New York and nationwide, we will never stop fighting for the dignity, safety, and basic rights of the transgender community," James went on to add.

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
