Trump brokers historic peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan
During last year's campaign, President Donald Trump pledged that he would work on bringing greater peace to the world state.
He took a step towards fulfilling that promise this past week by brokering an agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Countries will "respect each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity"
According to Breitbart, Trump unveiled the deal on Friday during a White House meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
"With this accord, we’ve finally succeeded in making peace, and we just left the Oval Office where we signed voluminous documents and very important elements to the agreement," Trump declared.

"The countries of Armenia and Azerbaijan are committing to stop all fighting forever, open up commerce, travel, and diplomatic relations, and respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity," he explained.
"This declaration establishes what they are calling–a great honor for me, I didn’t ask for this–the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity, which is a special transit area that will allow Azerbaijan to get full access to its territory of Nakhichevan, while fully respecting Armenia’s sovereignty," Trump continued.
Trump talks up potential for American investment
"They’re very anxious to go into these two countries, and they’re going to spend a lot of money, a lot of money, which will economically benefit all three of our nations," he declared.
"This is incredibly positive news for the future of the entire region, and it’s a very important region, as you know," the president asserted.
Armenia and Azerbaijan are both former Soviet republicans and have repeatedly clashed ever since the two countries gained their independence.
Conflict centers on hotly contested Nagorno-Karabakh region
As Reuters reported, the most recent round of hostilities broke out two years ago when Azerbaijan launched an offensive in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Nagorno-Karabakh is a mountainous area which is internationally recognized as Azerbaijani territory but had an ethnic Armenian majority until 2023.
The news service pointed out how the conflict has a religious component, as Azerbaijanis are largely Muslim whereas Armenians tend to be Christians.
