While Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani will try to convince you that Democratic socialism and radical progressive policies are the way to govern, there's evidence every day that the outcome of that way of thinking never works out.

Take Kansas City, for example. A Democrat-run city that isn't quite as bad as New York or other deep blue examples, but bad enough to see consequences from its progressive leadership's rules and policies.

According to the Daily Mail, a government-funded grocery store was just recently shut down after years of rampant shoplifting and crime in the surrounding area.

The outlet noted that the Sun Fresh Market abruptly shut its doors on Monday, August 12.

What happened?

Customers arrived at the store only to find a sign on the door announcing the sudden closure, complete with an explanation of why the decision was made to shutter the government-run grocery store.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, we are no longer able to serve residents at this time," the sign read.

Not only has shoplifting plagued the supermarket for years, but empty store shelves have driven customers away. Social media images shared over the years have shown the city-run store with barren shelves.

The Daily Mail noted:

Shoppers said the store once held the fresh items they needed, but that it has been mostly empty for the last three months - and that some of the products available appear to be expired.

"The milk, I am scared to buy some,' shopper Michaelle Randolph told a local news affiliate. "Even the dates, they may have a few days over. I don't want to buy that."

Users across social media reacted to the news of Sun Fresh Market's predictable closure.

"Socialism is the only system where everyone shares the cake, but somehow there’s never any cake," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Communism does NOT work. Communist leaders steal from the poor, ignorant and uninformed to make themselves rich and hold all the power. The communist leaders then arrest everyone who does not agree with them. Look at China and Venezuela for recent examples."
