President Donald Trump is continuing the trend established during his first term of appointing conservative-leaning and Constitutionally-minded individuals to serve as judges in the federal judiciary.

On Thursday, Trump nominated federal prosecutor Rebecca Taibleson to serve as an appellate judge on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, according to The Hill.

Presuming she is confirmed by the Senate, Taibleson will replace Judge Diana Sykes on the bench, who is set to take senior status and semi-retire in October.

Nominee announced

In a Truth Social post on Thursday, President Trump wrote, "It is my Great Honor to nominate Rebecca Taibleson to serve as a Judge on the United States Court of Appeals, for the Seventh Circuit, in the Great State of Wisconsin."

"Rebecca brings a wealth of EXPERIENCE AND SUCCESS, from her time as Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin and, formerly, as Assistant to the United States Solicitor General," he continued.

Trump noted, "Rebecca has learned from some of the BEST and most HIGHLY RESPECTED Legal Minds in the Country, having clerked for United States Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Antonin Scalia."

"Rebecca will make a fantastic Judge who will fearlessly defend the Constitution, and strongly uphold the Rule of Law," the president added. "Congratulations Rebecca!"

Experience as judicial clerk, prosecutor highlighted

According to The Hill, Taibleson began her service in 2016 as an assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, and currently serves as the co-chief of that office's Appellate Division.

In that role, she is responsible for coordinating and supervising all appellate cases in the district in which the office represents the federal government.

Prior to that, according to Reuters, Taibleson served in the U.S. Solicitor General's office from 2019-2022

She also previously clerked for the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who died in 2016, before a brief stint in private practice, and before that, was a clerk for Justice Brett Kavanaugh from 2010-2011 when he was a judge on the D.C. Circuit Court, whom she also testified in support of during his 2018 Senate confirmation hearings.

Wisconsin's senators approve

The Hill reported that Taibleson was one of five potential nominees recommended jointly to President Trump by Wisconsin Sens. Ron Johnson (R) and Tammy Baldwin (D) to fill the seat that will soon be vacated by Judge Sykes.

There has been some speculation that the president might ignore those recommendations from the senators and make a choice of his own, but that ended up not being the case.

In reaction to Trump's announcement on Thursday, Johnson posted on X, "Ms. Taibleson is an excellent choice to serve as a judge on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. I look forward to her swift confirmation."
