In a revelation that was shocking to few, it was uncovered that the Biden administration placed thousands of migrant children in homes that were unvetted.

Records reviewed and released by members of Congress found that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) didn’t fully vet the sponsors who received over 11,000 migrant children, as Breitbart News reported.

One lawmaker was relentless in pursuit of records into the current administration, despite the fact that HHS "stonewalled" his prior requests.

Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), the oldest member of either House of Congress at 92, took upon himself the duty of making sure someone was held accountable.

The Data

Grassley, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, received data about the 79,143 children processed and placed by HHS from January 2021 and January 2025.

The sme information revealed that those who received custody of the displaced children went without home studies, which is the process of vetting foster homes where staff assess the living situation.

In total, HHS under Biden carried out only about 7,000 home studies, which means the administration placed 11,000 unaccompanied minors with sponsors who were neither related to the child nor vetted by the government.

From Grassley

Grassley said that the information, eventually released by the Trump Assistant HHS Secretary Andrew Gradison and the Office of Refugee Resettlement’s Unaccompanied Alien Children Bureau, was enlightening.

"My oversight continues to expose disturbing evidence that the Biden-Harris administration turned a blind eye to tens of thousands of kids who needed proper supervision and care," Grassley said.

"It’s appalling to prioritize speed and optics over the safety and well-being of children,” Grassley went on, saying he is making the oversight of these unprotected children a priority.

The lawmaker added that he appreciates the current administration’s efforts to “undo the damage” caused when former President Joe Biden was in office.
