Leaked text messages show Jeanine Pirro calling Sean Hannity 'an egomaniac'
Former New York state judge and television personality Jeanine Pirro made headlines earlier this year when she was confirmed as United States attorney for the District of Columbia.
Pirro was back in the news this week after it emerged that she wrote bombshell text messages about her one-time Fox News colleague Sean Hannity.
Text messages made public
According to The Hill, Pirro sent the text messages in question to then-Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel in September of 2020.
The Hill noted that the messages were originally published by the Washington Post on Tuesday and obtained by the voting equipment company Smartmatic through its defamation lawsuit against Fox News.
"I work so hard for the party across the country. … I’m the # 1 watched show on all news cable all weekend. I work so hard for the President and party," Pirro wrote.
"Sean [Hannity] is an egomaniac. I was in the Oval with Hariri talking to POTUS. He storms in like he owns the place, throws his papers on the Pres desk and says, you don’t mind if I use your private bathroom, and walks into bathroom within Oval and uses it," she continued.
"Looks at me and says, I got to talk to him," Pirro recalled before adding, "[I.e.], you go. It's all [about] him, period. No one else matters."
Owners of legal shotguns and rifles will no longer be prosecuted in D.C.
Meanwhile, Pirro has drawn attention in recent days for her support of President Donald Trump's decision to take over the Metropolitan Police Department and deploy National Guard troops to America's capital city.
The Washington Post reported on Thursday that this includes telling prosecutors to seek the toughest charges possible for those who are arrested.
However, the New York Post also noted that Pirro is giving legal gun owners a break by no longer charging those who are found to be transporting registered shotguns and rifles within D.C.
"Nothing in this memo from the Department of Justice and the Office of Solicitor General precludes the United States Attorney’s Office from charging a felon with the possession of a firearm, which includes a rifle, shotgun, and attendant large capacity magazine pursuant to DC Code 22-4503," Pirro was quoted as saying.
Pirro says armed criminals "will be prosecuted to the fullest extent"
"What it does preclude is a separate charge of possession of a registered rifle or shotgun," the U.S. attorney continued.
"Crimes are intentional acts and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent by my office regardless of what instruments of criminality are used," she pointed out.
"My job is to keep this city, its citizens, its businesses, and its visitors safe from harm and I will do that to the fullest extent of the law," Pirro went on to add.
