President Donald Trump is still the subject of a number of legal cases, despite being the President of the United States, and arguably the most influential person in the world.

This week, Trump saw a victory in one of those cases when a New York court of appeals threw out a $500 million civil fraud penalty that had been leveled against him, as Newsweek reported.

The ruling not only removed the monetary penalty but also allowed Trump the opportunity to take on the judges and prosecutors who were involved in the case to begin with.

This case was one of a number of prosecutions Trump was the subject of throughout the time between his first and second terms.

The president spoke about the victory on his social media platform, Truth Social:

“TOTAL VICTORY in the FAKE New York State Attorney General Letitia James Case!” Trump posted in a lengthy message about the ruling.

“I greatly respect the fact that the Court had the Courage to throw out this unlawful and disgraceful Decision that was hurting Business all throughout New York State.”

The president called the case a “Political Witch Hunt, in a business sense, the likes of which no one has ever seen before.”

Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey and presidential counselor Alina Hobba spoke to the ruling, calling it a win for Trump as well.

“Today’s ruling by the New York appeals court is a resounding victory for President Trump and his company,” Hobba said.

“The court struck down the outrageous and unlawful $464 million penalty, confirming what we have said from the beginning: the Attorney General’s case was politically motivated, legally baseless, and grossly excessive. President Trump won - and justice won with him."

Donald Trump Jr., one of the current first sons and a political figure in his own right, called the ruling a “massive win.”

Don Jr. said that the court threw out the penalty, echoing his dad’s assertion that it was a “witch hunt,” and adding that it was “election interference, and a total miscarriage of justice… and even a left leaning NY appeals court agrees! NO MORE LAWFARE!”
