President Donald Trump surprised many when he chose former anti-Trumper J.D. Vance to be his running mate.

But the now-vice president has shown that he will have his boss’s back, even in the face of immense influence, like that of Elon Musk, as The Daily Mail reported.

Vance, like Trump, has had significant interaction with Musk, who formerly headed up the Department of Government Efficiency, and recently said he was starting his own political party.

The vice president, however, offered some political advice to the richest man in the world, saying the billionaire entrepreneur should probably try to fix the party at hand instead of starting another one.

More From Vance

During a recent interview on Fox News’s “The Ingraham Angle,” Vance said Musk should try to “fix the Republican Party,” rather than move forward with plans of an “America Party.”

Vance outlined the reasons for his opinion, saying Musk was welcome to try to “push [the party] in your own way.”

"Disagree with me all you want, disagree with the president of the United States, but don't pretend that you can make a big difference with a third party," Vance said Wednesday

The vice president went on to say that he thinks Musk could do the most good if he stayed “loyal” to Trump and the party.

"I think Elon would make a much bigger difference if he stayed loyal to President Trump's Republican Party, and if he had disagreements, express those disagreements from the inside as opposed [to] from the outside,” Vance added.

The Breakup

Musk and Trump had a very public falling out this year, around the time Trump was backing the One Big Beautiful Bill.

According to Vance, there is no going back for Musk when it comes to the public viewing him in a neutral way, he has to work with the reputation that he has.

"Whether you like it or not, you are now perceived by the far left as on the side of the American right," Vance said.

"You believe in law and order, you believe in closed borders, you believe in economic growth and prosperity, you believe in making things in the United States of America," the VP continued. "The idea that Elon is ever going to go back to being sort of in the middle, where Democrats and Republicans both like him, that's just not going to happen. He is perceived as being on the American right."
