Newsom continues to imitate Trump with social media messages

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) continues to release social media messages in the style of President Donald Trump.

The move, according to The Hill, is getting "cool reviews" from some of Trump's White House allies.

In other words, the White House does not seem to be too concerned about it. Before we get to that, though, we'll quickly take a look at what Newsom has been up to.

Background

In recent weeks, Newsom has released numerous messages designed to "troll" President Trump, by using his Trump's own social media style.

Here is one recent example (Please pardon the all caps):

FOX (“EDITS THE TAPES”) NEWS MUST CANCEL THEIR WEEKEND STINKERS IMMEDIATELY!!! THEY ARE VERY DISHONEST AND ALL THEY DO IS TRASH ME, GAVIN C. NEWSOM, AMERICA’S FAVORITE GOVERNOR (AND MANY SAY THE MOST HANDSOME IN HISTORY, THANK YOU!). LARA TRUMP’S “SHOW” IS A TOTAL DISASTER. NO PERSONALITY, NO TALENT, VERY LOW ENERGY. SHE DESPERATELY NEEDS "COACHING" FROM CRAZY FATHER-IN-LAW!!! ALSO, WHY DID FOX LET MARK “NOBODY” LEVIN (I HAD TO GOOGLE HIM) TRASH ME???? HE SAID I AM TOO POPULAR ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND HE HATES THAT THE PEOPLE LOVE ME AND HOW I MAKE TRUMP LOOK LIKE THE WEAK LITTLE (HANDS) MAN HE IS! MARK SHOULD TAKE “NOTES” FROM JESSE WATTERS WHO KEEPS CALLING ME “DADDY” EVEN THOUGH I TOLD HIM NO THANK YOU!!! CANCEL THE “FOX NEWS STINKERS” NOW! THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO STINK UP OUR AIRWAVES ANY LONGER! AND PLEASE NO MORE NEGATIVE ADS ABOUT ME! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! — GCN

If you are familiar with some of Trump's own social media messages, then you probably see the resemblance, not just with the all caps, but also with the language.

Newsom particularly started doing this with respect to the ongoing redistricting battle that is taking place in various states across the country, most notably in Texas and in Newsom's own state of California.

Newsom, in fact, just signed legislation that, according to Breitbart News, "create[s] new congressional maps designed by the Democrat-dominated legislature to eliminate half of the state’s Republican-held seats."

"Cool reviews"

This is how The Hill describes the White House's response to Newsom's attempt at trolling.

Per the outlet:

For the Trump White House, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. As White House officials watched California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) mirror President Trump’s rhetoric and social media persona this past week, they say it didn’t land the way it was intended.

The outlet goes on to quote an unnamed Trump ally.

This individual reported, "If he wanted to get under President Trump’s skin, it didn’t work. I think everyone around here viewed it as comical. Let’s face it, there’s only one Trump."

It is probably also worth keeping in mind that Newsom, most likely, is trying to bring attention to himself for a 2028 run at the U.S. presidency. Accordingly, it would appear that he is trying to find success using Trump's own strategies. We'll have to see if it works for him.
