Trump FBI raids John Bolton

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted a raid on the home and office of former National Security Advisor John Bolton last week.

Fox News reports that the raid took place on Friday morning.

The big question, of course, is what the impetus for the raid was. Another question is whether Bolton will actually face federal charges. We, at the time of this writing, have yet to get a definitive answer.

Here's what we know:

The allegation is that the FBI conducted a raid on Bolton as part of an investigation into his use of a private email server to send classified government materials to members of his family.

The New York Post reports:

FBI agents raided the Maryland home and Washington, DC office of President Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton Friday morning in a high-profile probe of allegations that he sent “highly sensitive” classified documents to his family from a private email server while working in the White House.

It is worth noting that, at this point, Bolton has neither been arrested nor charged with any crimes. But, it would appear that this could change in the near future.

The Post separately reported:

Former Trump National Security Adviser John Bolton should face criminal charges over his alleged emailing of highly sensitive classified materials through a private server, high ranking FBI officials told The Post Saturday, as they questioned why the Biden administration shelved the case in the first place.

For now, though, we just have to wait and see how the Trump administration decides to proceed with the matter.

"NO ONE is above the law"

For those less familiar with Bolton, he was a member of President Trump's first presidential term, where he was the National Security Adviser for a period of about 17 months. Since then, Bolton has become one of Trump's biggest critics.

Some have suggested that the Trump administration is merely pursuing retribution against Bolton. But, the administration has vigorously pushed backed on this notion.

Both FBI Director Kash Patel and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi have released statements on the matter, with Patel writing, "NO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission." Bondi, similarly, wrote, "America’s safety isn’t negotiable. Justice will be pursued. Always."

Another question is what role, if any, did President Trump play in any of this.

Here's what the president has said:

I'm not a fan of John Bolton. He's a real sort of lowlife... I know nothing about it. I just saw it this morning... I tell Pam and I tell the group I don't want to know about it. You have to do what you have to do.
