Finance mogul and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was known for having friendships with a number of high-profile figures.

Those ties extended to Britain's royal family, with one author recently exposing the connection between Epstein and Prince Andrew.

Biography: Epstein and the prince "were interested in the same stuff"

According to Fox News, those details were laid out by royal biographer Andrew Lownie in "Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York," which was released earlier this month.

"I think the reason that Epstein and Andrew were such good friends was that they were interested in the same stuff, basically money and sex," Lownie told Fox News.

"Andrew gave Epstein respectability and some useful contacts from his role as a special trade envoy," the author explained.

"And for Andrew, Epstein provided someone who would pay [his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson’s] bills, someone who provided a ready supply of women and also, as he said in the Newsnight interview, had some useful contacts for him," Lownie continued.

Lownie went on to assert that the relationship between Epstein and the prince represented "a win-win situation for both of them."

Author: Epstein preyed on Andrew's greed and sex addiction

"I think it was very easy for Epstein to prey on Andrew because he knew he had these weaknesses," the author said to Fox News.

"One was his greed and the need to pay off Fergie’s debts," he noted, referring to financial obligations which had been famously incurred by Sarah Ferguson.

"And the other was that he had this sexual addiction, rather like Epstein. Epstein needed constant sexual gratification, and Andrew was the same," Lownie argued.

The royal biographer opined that King Charles' younger brother "was not ruled, shall we say, by his head in a lot of these things."

Prince said to be "terrified" of being arrested

Meanwhile, The Sun reported earlier this year that Andrew is "terrified" by the prospect of being charged by U.S. authorities in connection with Epstein's crimes.

"He is terrified if he goes to America, he could be arrested, face civil action or be subpoenaed," an unnamed source said to be close to the prince told the newspaper.

"He used to be Air Miles Andy but he’ll never risk going to America again," the source recalled before adding. "Since the whole thing blew up, he’s only been to Bahrain, where he has friends. There hasn’t been a single golf trip to Spain or holiday abroad."
