Twelve federal judges called out the Supreme Court in anonymous interview

The makeup of the United States Supreme Court was changed substantially due to the appointments made by President Donald Trump.

Three of the six Republican appointed judges were put there with the help of Trump, but now dozens of lower judges have called out the nation’s highest court, as Newsmax reported.

The 12 judges spoke to NBC on the condition of anonymity, saying they didn’t want to be identified due to fear of retaliation.

However, the publication reported that the judges were “appointed by Democratic and Republican presidents, including Trump, and serving around the country.”

Judges’ Concerns

The judges asserted that they see what they described as a pattern of emergency rulings from the right-leaning high court involving Trump that they don’t care for.

According to the nameless judges, the Supreme Court is making decisions on contentious issues involving the White House that lean too close to preferential treatment.

The judges believe the Supreme Court should do more to explain their rulings on emergency cases, saying that the handling of the cases validating Trump should be criticized.

“It is inexcusable,” one judge told NBC News. “They don’t have our backs.”

Chief Justice John Roberts addressed this head-on last year when he condemned elected officials' attempt to intimidate judges. The chief justice believes that is not only unacceptable but potentially dangerous for those who sit on the bench.

“Attempts to intimidate judges for their rulings in cases are inappropriate and should be vigorously opposed,” Roberts wrote in his 2024 year-end summary.

“Public officials certainly have a right to criticize the work of the judiciary, but they should be mindful that intemperance in their statements when it comes to judges may prompt dangerous reactions by others.”

More Public Rebuke

No officials were specifically named in Roberts’ diatribe, but he made similar statements in 2018 about officials who accused judges of political bias.

Roberts said that courts aren’t run by “Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges,” pushing back against the partisan accusations.

“What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them.” Roberts said at the time,“That independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for.”
