House floor erupts in bickering as prayer request is made for Charlie Kirk
The Charlie Kirk assassination shook the nation, to say the very least. Kirk, because of who he was, had many friends in Congress, and a number of Republican lawmakers decided to pay their respects.
According to Fox News, on Wednesday, a request was made on the House floor for a moment of silence for Kirk, whose condition at that time was still in question. The prayer request escalated and turned into a partisan shouting match.
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) spoke up and encouraged prayers to be said out loud for the legendary conservative activist and father of two beautiful girls. That didn't sit well with several Democratic lawmakers.
The situation turned ugly, fast. The two sides began bickering over the prayer request before the Democrats began blaming Republicans for gun violence.
What happened?
The moment of silence and prayer request began normally, with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) leading the charge.
"Please rise for a moment of prayer for Charlie Kirk and his family," Speaker Johnson said. The House floor returned to normal order and everything appeared to be calm.
Boebert then spoke up, saying, "Silent prayers get silent results." She was reportedly heard asking for prayers to be said out loud for Kirk, who was in critical condition at the time after taking a bullet at a university in Utah.
An unbelievable moment on the House floor.

Fox News noted:
The Colorado Republican's comments resulted in shouts from Democrats. Some reportedly began shouting back about how Republicans had ignored a school shooting that happened Wednesday as well, according to the New York Times.
Meanwhile, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., stood up and began shouting back. "You all caused this," she said.
Speaker Johnson struggled to get the House floor back in order, finally saying that those interested would join each other in prayer after the regular session.
Social media reacts
Users across social media had plenty to say about the situation, especially the disrespectful comments from House Democrats.
"Whoever shouted no should be immediately relieved of duty. A citizen just died by assassination for exercising his 1st amendment right… if they can’t handle a moment of silence for that, they can get TF out of my government," one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "Who on the left said no? It sounded like Ilhan Omar. They need to be exposed."
It's truly disgusting and disheartening to see so much hatred on the left in the wake of this tragedy.
