Appellate court says Trump can block federal Planned Parenthood funding
An appellate court just gave President Donald Trump and his administration the okay to block Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid funding.
The Hill reports that the First U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals released its decision in the case on Thursday.
The court, as we will see, reversed a lower court ruling, which looked to stop Trump from taking this action.
Charlie would be so happy right now.
An Appeals Court just allowed the Trump administration to END federal Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood.

Background
CBS News explains how this situation ended up in court.
Per the outlet:
A provision in Mr. Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" instructed the federal government to end Medicaid payments for one year to abortion providers that received more than $800,000 from Medicaid in 2023, even those like Planned Parenthood that also offer medical services like contraception, pregnancy tests and STD testing.
In response, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its member organizations in Massachusetts filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, and the group got a win at the lower court level.
CBS News reports:
A federal judge in July ruled Planned Parenthood clinics nationwide must continue to be reimbursed with Medicaid funding as the nation's largest abortion provider fights the administration's efforts to defund the organization in his signature tax legislation.
Now, however, that lower court ruling has been reversed.
The latest
Just the News reports on the latest developments in the case.
The outlet writes:
Notwithstanding the contrary conclusion reached by the district court after its careful consideration of the matter, we conclude that defendants have met their burden to show their entitlement to a stay of the preliminary injunctions pending the disposition of their appeals of the same.
That's just a fancy way of saying that, while litigation in the case continues - while the two sides continue their legal dispute - the Trump administration can move forward with its plan to cut off Planned Parenthood from that Medicaid funding.
Just the News adds:
The three-judge panel, who were all appointed by former President Joe Biden, ruled the government likely has the better argument after the Justice Department asked Talwani not to let Planned Parenthood "supplant duly enacted legislation with their own policy preferences."
It is a bit surprising that Trump got this win from a group of Biden-appointed judges. Remember, though, the case still has to be decided on its merits. It will be some time before a decision is reached.
