4 House Republicans join Democrats to block censure of Rep. Omar
A small group of Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives just helped their Democratic counterparts to block a resolution that would have censured U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN).
The censure, according to Fox News, would have been for the controversial comments that Omar made in the wake of Turning Point USA Founder Charlie Kirk's assassination.
The four Republicans to oppose the effort are U.S. Reps. Mike Flood (R-NE), Tom McClintock (R-CA), Jeff Hurd (R-CO), and Cory Mills (R-FL).

Background
Omar's controversial remarks came during an interview that she did on MSNBC shortly after Kirk's assassination.
There, in part, she said:
Charlie was someone who was willing to debate and downplay the death of George Floyd in the hands of Minneapolis police… have no regard, downplay slavery and what black people have gone through in this country by saying Juneteenth should never exist. There is nothing more effed up than to completely pretend that his words and actions have not been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so. You have people like Nancy Mace who constantly harass people that she finds inferior and wants them not to exist in this country or ever, and you have people like Trump who has incited violence against people like me. And so, these people are full of s*** and it’s important for us to call them out.
Omar was widely criticized for the remarks, and U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) responded by bringing a resolution against Omar, in the House of Representatives, to censure her.
In the resolution, Mace accused Omar of having "smeared Charlie Kirk and implied he was to blame for his own murder."
But, that's not all. The resolution also states:
Whereas on September 12, 2025, two days after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Representative Ilhan Omar reposted a video on X (formerly known as Twitter), which disparaged the character of Charlie Kirk and those mourning his death; Whereas the video Representative Ilhan Omar reposted on X states “Charlie Kirk is dead, and before the body got cold, the far-Right propped his corpse up as a cudgel for their holy war”; Whereas the video Representative Ilhan Omar reposted on X further states “Don’t be fooled, these people don’t give a single shit about Charlie Kirk, they are just using his death to further their Christofascist agenda."
The votes are in
As mentioned at the outset, the resolution ended up failing.
The final vote was 214 to 213 against the passage of the resolution.
In other words, it would have passed had it not been for those four Republicans who voted with their Demcoratic counterparts.
The resolution would have:
Formally censured Rep. Ilhan Omar before the full House of Representatives. Required her to stand in the well of the House chamber as the censure is read aloud. Stripped her of committee assignments on the House Education and Workforce Committee and the House Budget Committee.
Now, however, Omar gets off free.
