President Trump designates Antifa a 'major terrorist organization'
It was a long time coming, but President Donald Trump was the one who had the courage and leadership to designate a radical leftist organization a terrorist group, as should have been the case years ago.
According to Fox News, on Wednesday, President Trump announced his intentions to designate Antifa a "major terrorist organization" in the wake of the group continuously making headlines for its violent and dangerous actions.
In a Truth Social post, Trump described the group as a "radical left disaster" before adding that he would be recommending that those who fund the group should also be investigated.
Trump told reporters this week that he believes Antifa activists are "professional agitators" and essentially only serve to stir things up.
What did he say?
The president, as he spoke with reporters, argued that Antifa activists aren't really "protesting," rather, their just stirring the pot with violent actions and disgusting rhetoric.
"Antifa is terrible," the president said. "These aren't protests, these are crimes that they're doing. They're throwing bricks at cars of the ICE and Border Patrol. … They're professional agitators. … They should be put in jail. What they're doing to this country is really subversive."
Fox News noted:
Antifa, which is short for "anti-fascist," is a decentralized movement that does not have a designated leader, membership or structure.
The movement claims to oppose fascism, white supremacy and far-right extremism.
The problem is that no matter what the group claims its goals are, they typically act out in violence or other harmful actions, like doxxing people and using intimidation tactics.
The president linked far-left activism, like the level seen within the ranks of Antifa, to Charlie Kirk's death.
"We have a radical left group of lunatics out there, just absolute lunatics, and we’re going to get that problem solved," Trump said right before designating Antifa a terrorist group.
Social media reacts
Users across social media, especially Trump's supporters, reacted positively to the news, with many cheering on the president for making it happen.
