Harris describes plan for what to do if Biden could not remain in office

This month saw former Vice President Kamala Harris release a new memoir called "107 Days" which recounts her time in Washington.

The book exposes a number of startling details, including the serious concerns which existed over President Joe Biden's ability to remain in office.

"Red File" laid out plans for what to do if Biden left office

That's according to Fox News, which cited a passage describing a succession plan which was drawn up by Harris' brother-in-law, Tony West.

"A year earlier, he had started what he called the 'Red File,'" Harris said of West. "With a president in his eighties, he suggested, it would be malpractice on my part to be unprepared if, God forbid, something should happen."

The former vice president described how the Red File laid out the first dozen world leaders and high-ranking political figures who were to be contacted in the event of an unexpected change in leadership.

What's more, the document also summarized the rules governing a transition as well as when Harris was to release her initial statement.

West said it would be "prudent to have a plan" for "such a traumatic moment"

The former vice president recalled how West explained to her that preparation would be necessary should she be confronted with "such a traumatic moment."

He stressed how it would be "prudent to have a plan for the first twenty-four to forty-eight hours, so people don't have to make a lot of decisions in the pressure of a crisis."

Although Biden ultimately finished out his term, the Red File assisted Harris in launching her campaign once he dropped out of the race.

Harris describes Biden's decision to seek a second term as "recklessness"

In addition to going over contingency plans for Biden's potential death or incapacitation, Harris also used her book to criticize the former president.

USA Today reported earlier this month that Harris took issue with Biden's initial decision to run again in 2024, describing it as "recklessness."

"The stakes were simply too high," she asserted. "This wasn’t a choice that should have been left to an individual’s ego, an individual’s ambition. It should have been more than a personal decision."

"'It’s Joe and Jill’s decision.' We all said that, like a mantra, as if we’d all been hypnotized,"' the Democratic Party's former nominee went on to lament.
