Report: Source says Attorney General Pam Bondi left Comey prosecutor 'out to dry'
A federal grand jury moved this past week to indict former FBI Director James Comey on charges of obstruction and making a false statement while testifying before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee in 2020.
However, some are suggesting that Attorney General Pam Bondi hasn't done enough to support the woman who is in charge of prosecuting him.
One source alleges that prosecutor was left "out to dry"
That's according to the Daily Mail, which recently cited conflicting accounts offered by Department of Justice (DOJ) sources who are purportedly familiar with the matter.
The newspaper noted how newly appointed interim United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Lindsey Halligan argued the case alone before grand jury members.
One figure indicated that this was because senior DOJ leadership "wanted nothing to do with the Comey case" as they doubted whether Halligan could secure an indictment.
The source further asserted that after being left "out to dry," the DOJ "wanted to come in as the hero" after Comey was successfully indicted.
Second source blames "deep state prosecutors," says AG is "pleased" with Halligan
Yet that characterization of events was disputed by another DOJ insider, who said Halligan had to argue the case herself as "deep state prosecutors" in the Eastern District of Virginia were not willing to join her in court.

The source explained that Halligan, who has no prosecutorial experience, "had an impressive showing" and left the attorney general "pleased."
The second insider further maintained that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche's office is providing assistance with Halligan's efforts.
Trump criticized Bondi in since-deleted Truth Social post
The Daily Mail article just under a week after President Donald Trump put up a since-deleted Truth Social post in which he criticized Bondi for not moving fast enough against Comey as well as California Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff and New York Attorney General Leticia James.
"Pam: I have reviewed over 30 statements and posts saying that, essentially, same old story as last time, all talk, no action," Fox News quoted Trump as writing.
"Nothing is being done. What about Comey, Adam 'Shifty' Schiff, Leticia??? They’re all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done," he continued.
The president later put up another post praising both Bondi and Halligan while predicting that the former would "get things moving.
