Trump vows to move FIFA 26 soccer matches out of unsafe cities
President Donald Trump has very bluntly and clearly shown that he takes the safety of the American people extremely seriously, to the point where he's not afraid to make bold decisions if it means protecting American citizens.
That was evident this week as he vowed to relocate FIFA 2026 World Cup matches in U.S. cities deemed to unsafe for such large, popular sporting events, Newsmax reported.
Trump made the threat to move the matches out of those cities during a press gaggle in the Oval Office this week.
The president said very clearly when asked if he would consider moving matches out of unsafe cities that he would not hesitate to do so, and the mayors of those potentially unsafe cities lost their minds, not surprisingly.
What's happening?
Trump, in his usual, forward fashion, told reporters what he's willing to do if it means keeping Americans safe on his watch.
“If any city we think is going to be even a little bit dangerous for the World Cup or for the Olympics, you know, where they have Olympic overthrow, right? But for the World Cup in particular, because they're playing in so many cities, we won't allow it to go to, we'll move it around a little bit. But I hope that's not going to happen," Trump said.
He was asked point blank by a reporter if he would move matches from cities that are complying with his anti-crime initiatives.
“Well, that’s an interesting suggestion, I guess. But we’re going to make sure they’re safe," Trump responded.
He continued, "If I think it isn’t safe, we’ll move it into a different city, absolutely."
“It’s actually a very fair question. If I think it’s not safe, we’re going to move it out of that city.”
Especially because they are sanctuary cities, Seattle and Tacoma are too dangerous to host FIFA. The athletes and spectators need to be safe and secure, and these two cities cannot guarantee their safety. The games should be moved. https://t.co/kEiHGL2MOO
