Leaked texts from Virginia AG candidate show him calling for violence against GOP leader
Newly released text messages from a Democrat candidate for Virginia's attorney general position show him calling for violence against Republicans.
Fox News is one outlet that has obtained a copy of the messages.
The texts come from Democrat Jay Jones. Take a look:
This violent, disgusting rhetoric targeted at an elected official and his children is beyond disqualifying.
Jay Jones said that “Gilbert gets two bullets to the head” and then hoped his children would die. Read those words again.
There is no “gosh, I’m sorry” here. Jones… https://t.co/kOJD0cexlh

The details:
According to the Daily Caller, the text messages date back to August 2022.
Per the outlet:
Jones, a former Virginia state delegate, told Republican House Delegate Carrie Coyner that he would give former Republican Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert “two bullets to the head” and urinate on his grave...
The Daily Caller explains that "Jones . . . reportedly made the comments about Gilbert after leaving the state house months earlier."
The outlet goes on to quote Jones as stating:
If those guys die before me . . . I will go to their funerals to piss on their graves . . . [to] send them out awash in something, Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, hitler, and pol pot, Gilbert gets two bullets to the head. Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time.
At this point, Coyner asked Jones to "please stop," adding, "t really bothers me when you talk about hurting people or wishing death on them … no matter who they are." Jones replied, "lol" and "ok, ok."
Time to step down
Many are now calling upon Jones to drop out of the race for Virginia's attorney general position.
Among those leading the calls is Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R).

Jones doesn’t have the morality or character to drop out of this race, and his running mates Abigail Spanberger, Ghazala Hashmi, and every elected Democrat in Virginia don’t have the courage to call on him to step away from this campaign in disgrace.
Many state Democrats are also joining in the call.
Jones is said to have, at some point, apologized to Gilbert and his family. Publicly, he has only expressed "regret" at having sent the messages.
