Van Jones admits Chuck Schumer reversed stance on government shutdowns

While the blame game for the government shutdown continues to unfold, political commentators are having the time of their lives helping their chosen side blame the other.

However, some of those commentators aren't happy with their aligned party's leadership. According to Breitbart, liberal political commentator Van Jones seemed quite confused and aggravated by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) over the shutdown situation.

During a recent CNN appearance, Jones recounted how he met with the Democratic Senate leader just three months ago and the two discussed how shutting down the government is "stupid."

Jones acted surprised when he said that just three short months later, Schumer was coming on TV and announcing a government shutdown.

What did he say?

Jones held nothing back in his assessment of the situation and Schumer's seeming willingness to let the government partially shut down.

Notably, Jones said that it was Schumer getting on him three months ago in explaining why it's a bad idea to shut down the government, only to obviously reverse that thought process.

“[T]he weird thing is, I talked to Chuck Schumer about this like three months ago, and he was kicking me in the butt, because I had been tough on him for not allowing the government to shut down, and he convinced me that shutting the government down is stupid," Jones explained.

He added, "Then I come on TV and he says, we’re now shutting the government down. I said, hold on a second, guys."

Jones went on to express skepticism of his party's willingness to let the government close for the time being.

“So, look, my view is, the Republicans were about to let a bunch of Americans, 15 million Americans, step on a rake called their insurance premiums going through the roof," he said.

"That’s when you shut the government down, but you do it before, and, now, it’s just going to be one more piece of garbage coming at the American people. I just think the timing’s not that great, but, look, maybe it’ll work."

Social media response

Users across social media commented on Jones and his revelation that he talked to Schumer about shutdowns three months back.

"Purely political. And it won’t end well for the Dems who are at 16% approval. Keep digging though Chuck!" one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Lol imagine only now just coming to the realization that politicians are lying to you."
