Trump's deployment of troops to Portland blocked by federal judge
As President Donald Trump vowed to bring law and order to Portland, Oregon, legal action was immediately taken by the city in an effort to block the administration from deploying National Guard troops much like what happened in Washington D.C.
According to Fox News, late Sunday night, a federal judge blocked the administration from moving forward with the deployment of National Guard troops, with the judge ruling the action as "unlawful" and "unconstitutional."
The order was handed down by U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut, who issued an emergency ruling that blocked the deployment of California National Guard troops to Portland.
Notably, the order also blocked the deployment of troops from any other state, including Washington D.C., to Portland.
What's going on?
The judge ruled that Trump's deployment order violates federal statute 10 U.S.C. §12406 and the Tenth Amendment.
"It appears to violate both 10 U.S.C. §12406 and the Tenth Amendment," Judge Immergut said in her ruling, which was largely disregarded by the Trump administration.
The Justice Department was also pressed by the judge regarding the ongoing deployment of troops.
"How could bringing in federalized National Guard from California not be in direct contravention of the TRO that I issued yesterday?" she asked DOJ attorney Eric Hamilton. "You’re an officer of the court. Aren’t defendants circumventing my order?"
The judge added, "You have to have a colorable claim that Oregon conditions warrant deploying the National Guard — you don’t."

Social media reacts
Users across social media weighed in on the judge's decision to block the troop deployment.
"Yet another scotus appeal and victory incoming. They can’t stop stepping on rakes," one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "Trump will prevail through the appeals process, but in the meantime these activist judges put federal law enforcement at severe risk."
It'll be interesting to see if Trump takes the issue to the Supreme Court as he's been forced to do many time recently. Luckily, decisions from the high court have largely landed in Trump's favor.
