Report: Trump plans to cut refugee admissions by 94%, admit mostly South Africans

The Biden administration admitted just over 100,000 refugees in Fiscal Year 2024, representing the largest figure seen in three decades.

However, President Donald Trump will be taking a scorched earth approach to that legacy, reducing admissions by 94%.

Report: Trump planning to set total number of admittable refugees at 7,500

That's according to The New York Times, which reported that Trump is planning to set the maximum number of allowable refugees at just 7,500.

If implemented, the move would come roughly nine months after the president signed an executive order which suspended the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP).

"The United States lacks the ability to absorb large numbers of migrants, and in particular, refugees, into its communities in a manner that does not compromise the availability of resources for Americans, that protects their safety and security, and that ensures the appropriate assimilation of refugees," it noted.

The order added that it "suspends the USRAP until such time as the further entry into the United States of refugees aligns with the interests of the United States."

Most new refugees will come from South Africa

The Times pointed out how most of those refugees who do end up being admitted will likely be Afrikaners, a minority white ethnic group living in South Africa.

Trump announced in February that his administration would cease providing assistance to the South African government for "blatantly" discriminating "against ethnic minority descendants of settler groups."

He further pledged to "establish a plan to resettle disfavored minorities in South Africa discriminated against because of their race as refugees."

The Associated Press observed that roughly 70 Afrikaner refugees have been admitted to the United States thus far, with most having arrived in May and June.

South African politician publicly calls for the murder of white people

Julius Malema leads South Africa's third-largest political party, and he was found guilty in August of engaging in hate speech after publicly calling for the murder of white people.

Malema is also known for hosting massive rallies during which attendees are encouraged to chant, "Kill the Boer," a term which refers to white South Africans.

The National Pulse reported that murders of South African farmers went up by 167% in the final quarter of last year, with one 79-year-old man having his throat slit after being beaten with a pipe.
