Embattled Dem candidate Jay Jones torched for 'slap on the wrist' reckless driving charge
Virginia Democrat attorney general nominee Jay Jones is struggling in the wake of his text scandal, and now that there's blood in the water, his past is being dug up. And it's not going to end well for him.
According to the Daily Wire, in 2022, the embattled Democrat was able to get out of a reckless driving charge with nothing more than a slap on the wrist, with many saying it was grossly unfair.
That's because many other Virginia residents who faced similar charges were punished with significant consequences, including jail time and suspended licenses.
The texts Jones sent "advocated for the assassination of former Virginia state House Speaker Todd Gilbert (R), and caused an immediate political firestorm for Jones and a potential campaign-ending revelation.
What's going on?
Jones is having a difficult time defending his record and run-ins with the law.
The outlet reported Jones "was convicted of reckless driving that same year after he was caught driving 116 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone. In addition to a $1500 fine, he was ordered to complete 1000 hours of community service."
News of his criminal past quickly went viral across social media.
Jay Jones was caught recklessly driving 116 miles per hour on I-64.
Then, he tried to claim campaign work for his own PAC counted as community service to avoid jail.

The Daily Wire noted how unfair it was that Jones seemingly received special treatment compared to regular Virginia citizens.
Reporter Nick Minock found that others who were convicted of similar speeding infractions — in approximately a dozen cases — often faced jail time in addition to fines and suspended licenses.
Many have called for Jones to drop out of the race, saying that what's surfaced so far is not something he can recover from. So far, he has resisted those calls.
Social media reacts
Users across social media had plenty to say about Jones getting off with a wrist slap for his past offenses.
"None of this matters in the slightest. Pretend he was the greatest politician in history, or the most corrupt … the instant those texts came out his political career was over. The fact he doesn’t know it just shows he’s insane. The fact Democrats don’t know shows the same," one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "Yet another example of ‘rules for thee, not for me.'"
Only time will tell if Jones ends up dropping out.
