Nobel winner dedicates prize to Trump

The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize has decided to dedicate the award to President Donald Trump.

Breitbart News reports that Maria Corina Machado, the 2025 recipient of the prize, made the gesture on Friday.

This came after the Nobel committee, in the opinion of many, snubbed Trump by not giving him the prize after he achieved the Israel-Hamas ceasefire, among many other peacemaking deals.

The committee speaks

For those unfamiliar with Machado, she is an opposition leader in Venezuela.

The committee explained why it has decided to give her the award, stating:

She is receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela, and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.

That's all well and good, but many have argued, persuasively, that Trump has done more than anyone else on the planet and thus he ought to have received the award. The criticism even garnered a response from the committee.

Seeking to defend its decision not to give Trump the award, the committee said:

In the long history of the Nobel Peace Prize, I think this committee has seen many types of campaign, media attention. We receive thousands and thousands of letters every year of people wanting to say what, for them, leads to peace. This committee sits in a room filled with the portraits of all laureates and that room is filled with both courage and integrity. So we base only our decision on the work and the will of Alfred Nobel.

Many, though, believe the committee simply does not like Trump.

The consolation prize

Now, Machado has dedicated her prize to Trump.

She said:

This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom. We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy. I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!

Trump is reported to have called Machado, congratulating her on the prize.

Trump did briefly comment on the situation in the Oval Office.

There, Trump said that, regardless of who won the prize, "I'm happy because I saved millions of lives."
