Trump orders U.S. troops to be paid amid government shutdown
It now appears that U.S. service member, despite the government shutdown, will not miss their paychecks.
Fox News reports that President Donald Trump has ordered War Secretary Pete Hegseth to essentially make sure the troops get paid.
Something along these lines was expected, as Trump previously vowed that, despite the shutdown, U.S. troops will get "every last penny" under his watch.

"I am using my authority"
Trump announced the move via social media.
He, in part, wrote:
Chuck Schumer recently said, “Every day gets better” during their Radical Left Shutdown. I DISAGREE! If nothing is done, because of “Leader” Chuck Schumer and the Democrats, our Brave Troops will miss the paychecks they are rightfully due on October 15th. That is why I am using my authority, as Commander in Chief, to direct our Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to use all available funds to get our Troops PAID on October 15th.
The president goes on to say that the White House has indeed found a way to fund the troops.
Trump continued:
We have identified funds to do this, and Secretary Hegseth will use them to PAY OUR TROOPS. I will not allow the Democrats to hold our Military, and the entire Security of our Nation, HOSTAGE, with their dangerous Government Shutdown.
The president concluded by telling the "radical left Democrats" to "open the government."
Background
There was significant concern that U.S. troops could miss a paycheck due to the government shutdown.
Fox News had reported:
Democrats and some Republicans have been demanding a House vote on ensuring U.S. troops do not miss their coming Oct. 15 paycheck or any others as the government shutdown barrels into a third week.
Nothing, however, was getting through. Republicans, according to Fox, blocked any efforts from the Democrats "as a Democrat bid to save face after rejecting Republicans' funding bill that would have kept the military and other federal workers paid."
This is why Trump has stepped in, and, as Hegseth put it, "delivered for the troops."
The big question, though, is just how long the government is going to remain shut down. And, no answer is in sight, at the time of this writing.
