Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez was booked Sunday for felony assault charges stemming from an incident involving him and a local truck driver in Indiana last week, according to Breitbart.

Sanchez, 38, faces a felony battery charge and three misdemeanors for beating Perry Tole, 69, after a disagreement on October 4. Sanchez was reportedly intoxicated at the time, and was stabbed three times by Tole in what police are describing as self-defense.

Sanchez was in Indianapolis to call the football game between the Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders for Fox Sports. He was admitted to the hospital for the stab wounds and will be allowed to leave Indiana after he is fingerprinted and his mug shot is taken.

If convicted, Sanchez could face up to six years in jail for his actions.

"Should never have happened"

Tole has not been charged with any crime.

“This incident should never have happened,” Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said. “What began as a disagreement between a 38-year-old former professional athlete and a 69-year-old man should not have escalated into violence or left anyone seriously injured.”

Sanchez's brother Nick Sanchez released a statement from the family thanking first responders for their care of his brother, Mark.

“This has been a deeply distressing time for everyone involved. Mark and our family are incredibly grateful for the concern, love, and support we’ve received over the past few days,” Nick Sanchez wrote. “Mark remains under medical care for the serious injuries he sustained and is focused on his recovery as the legal process continues. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the first responders and medical staff.”

Video footage

Surveillance video in the area showed Sanchez wandering back and forth on the street. After a while, Sanchez ran away bloodied and then wandered around some more until first responders showed up to treat his wounds and take him to the hospital.

Photos on social media showed Tole in the hospital, battered and bloodied with a neck brace on and around his extremely swollen chin.

Sanchez is a former NFL football player, which makes him much more powerful than the average 69-year-old.

Tole's job was to collect used cooking oil from restaurants so it could be reused.

He is likely to be out of work for some time as he recovers.

Tole has filed a civil suit against Sanchez for the beating on top of the criminal charges.
