Fetterman bucks Dem Party over ongoing government shutdown
One of the extremely rare, mostly reasonable Democrats in Congress, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), denounced his party colleagues this week as the government shutdown continues into record territory.
According to JustTheNews, Fetterman went as far as to say that he would support the GOP side of the upper chamber using the "nuclear" option if it means breaking the filibuster and finally ending the ongoing government shutdown.
One of Fetterman's primary concerns is the health of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP or modern-day "food stamps," and how much longer it can be sustained until it runs out of funding.
Tens of millions of Americans depend on the program, especially in the wake of the Biden administration causing food price inflation that still remains much higher than it should be.
What did he say?
Americans "need to eat," Fetterman said when claiming he would support Republicans doing whatever it takes to get the government back up and running.
“There are no winners here. It’s not getting better every day here. People are going to start to get really hungry, and I’ve been fully, fully committed to fund SNAP, open up the government,” Fetterman said.
He also commented on the fact that Capitol Police officers aren't getting paid either, nor are most other federal law enforcement officers.
This is just bad political theater. Open it up," Fetterman said about the shutdown.

JustTheNews noted:
When asked if he would support Republicans “nuking” the filibuster to let the House's funding measure pass the Senate with a simple-majority vote, rather than the 60-vote threshold, Fetterman replied affirmatively.
Social media reacts
Plenty of social media users reacted to Fetterman showing disgust with his party's antics.
"Now who would have guessed that Fetterman would have more sense than any of those democrats," one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "He should leave the Democratic party and become an Independent."
It'll be interesting to see if Fetterman gets any backlash for his thoughts on the matter.
