The New York Knicks just ordered Zohran Mamdani, the far-left candidate in the race to become the next mayor of New York City, to cease and desist.

Apparently, the NBA team, according to the New York Postfelt the need to distance itself from Mamdani.

While many people are distancing themselves from Mamdani, some high-profile figures in the Democratic Party are supporting him. There will be more on this in a moment.

"Cease and desist"

Fox News reports the statement released by the Knicks.

The team wrote:

The NY Knicks have sent NYC Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani a cease-and-desist letter for using the NY Knicks logo to promote his candidacy. The Knicks want to make it clear that we do not endorse Mr. Mamdani for Mayor, and we object to his use of our copyrighted logo. We will pursue all legal remedies to enforce our rights.

Fox reports that the cease and desist letter comes after Mamdani "used a logo similar to the team’s for a campaign ad."

Per the outlet:

Mamdani posted the logo on Instagram with the caption, "This is our year. This is our time. #NewYorkForever." The location for the post was Madison Square Garden. It has since been deleted.

Mamdani, at the time of this writing, has yet to comment on the situation.

Jeffries caves

An even bigger story about Mamdani than the cease and desist letter is the news that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has finally decided to throw his support behind Mamdani's mayoral campaign.

The New York Times reported:

In a statement to The New York Times, Jeffries acknowledged the two men had “areas of principled disagreement.” But he said that Mamdani had won “a free and fair election” in the Democratic primary and emphasized that the party needed to unite in the face of an “existential” threat from President Trump.

The outlet went on to quote Jeffries as saying, "Zohran Mamdani has relentlessly focused on addressing the affordability crisis and explicitly committed to being a mayor for all New Yorkers, including those who do not support his candidacy."

Jeffries added, "In that spirit, I support him and the entire citywide Democratic ticket in the general election."

In other words, it would now appear that the Democratic Party is going all in on Mamdani, after some initial hesitation.
