Fetterman complains that too many Democrats are 'dug in' on shutdown

Most Senate Democrats remain steadfast in their refusal to pass a continuing resolution which would open the federal government back up.

However, Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman has broken away from most of his colleagues on the issue.

Fetterman says "a critical mass" of Democrats are "dug in"

The Daily Caller reported that Fetterman made his stance this past weekend during an appearance on Fox News' "Saturday in America."

"I do believe that there’s a critical mass of my fellow Democrats that are dug in and now, until there’s an absolute ironclad kind of a deal," he complained to host Kayleigh McEnany.

"And I do fundamentally believe [Senate Majority] Leader [John] Thune is an honorable guy and I do believe we could have a sincere conversation after we can open it [the government] up," Fetterman continued.

"And then, we don’t have to do this three-card monte, about, you know, do this, do that, do the other thing," the Pennsylvania lawmaker declared.

SNAP is on the verge of running out of money

Fetterman went on to reference the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides food to roughly 42 million Americans, including 2 million people in Pennsylvania.

The Daily Caller noted how SNAP is currently on track to run out of money by the beginning of next month if the government is not reopened.

"Let’s just open it up, and then we have our SNAP [Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program], we have everyone’s [sic] paid," Fetterman asserted.

"And then we can have that conversation and see if we can extend those tax credit deals because I do believe there are enough Republicans that would like to see that too," the senator stressed.

Fetterman: "For me, it’s hungry Americans over party"

Fetterman's comments to McEnany echoed remarks he made when speaking with her fellow Fox News host Sean Hannity this past Wednesday.

"I am always going to vote country over my party and if I pay a price within my base, that's something I am willing to do," Fetterman told Hannity.

"For me, it’s hungry Americans over party. Paying our military over party. Paying Capitol Police and federal workers over party. I choose country over party," he maintained.
