White House pledges to stop funding 'globalist propaganda' in Hungary

Its website states that the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) exists to "inform, engage, and connect people around the world in support of freedom and democracy."

However, acting USAGM chief executive Kari Lake recently cracked down on something she presented as a betrayal of that mission.

USAGA is defunding Hungarian language service

According to Breitbart, Lake announced this week that USAGM is "no longer funding the Hungarian Language Service at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) known as Szabad Europa."

That message came in the form of a notice sent to House Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Chairman Mario Díaz-Balart.

"The original justification for adding Szabad Europa to RFE/RL’s programming lineup in 2019 is not aligned with U.S. national interests," the notice read.

Specifically, it alleged that such programming "has undermined President Trump’s foreign policy by opposing the duly elected Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban."

USAGM exists "solely to serve the American people"

The notification pointed out how "Orban was (and is) the leader of Hungary, which is both a strong U.S. ally and a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)."

What's more, it explained that "USAGM will be ending the use of any and all U.S. taxpayer money for the purpose of developing content for, or distributing content to, the populations of our NATO allies."

This move is said to reflect the fact that USAGM, the Voice of America, and the Office of Cuba Broadcasting "exist solely to serve the American people."

The notice asserted that these entities "do not exist to serve the interests, policies, or agenda of the European Union or any other foreign government, federation, or international body."

Lake touts end to "globalist propaganda"

For her part, Lake touted the decision to strip money from Szabad Europa, arguing that its funding "should NEVER have been started to begin with."

"Corrupt-career bureaucrats surreptitiously started pumping globalist propaganda media into Hungary to stir division and destabilize our ally," Lake declared.

"The bureaucrats did this during the first Trump administration BEFORE the President’s nominee was confirmed to lead the agency," she noted.

The acting USAGM head went on to declare that "American taxpayers will NO LONGER foot the bill for propaganda media aimed at our friends and NATO allies."
