Trump DOJ preparing to subpoena Obama officials

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is getting ready to subpoena Obama-era officials.

Fox News reports that this includes former CIA Director John Brennan.

What's more is that these are going to be grand jury subpoenas, meaning that the likes of Brennan may soon find themselves to be criminal defendants.

Subpoenas forthcoming

Thus far, the DOJ has yet to publicly comment on the matter. Several outlets, however, claim to have obtained inside information about the situation.

MSNBC reports:

The Department of Justice is preparing to issue a series of grand jury subpoenas as part of a South Florida-based investigation into former CIA Director John Brennan and the probes by the CIA and FBI into Russian interference in the 2016 election, MSNBC has learned. The investigation is being supervised by the U.S. attorney in South Florida, Jason Reding Quiñones, in consultation with Justice Department senior staff in Washington, according to a source familiar with the matter and other information obtained by MSNBC.

Before going any further, the leftist outlet attempts to clear Brennan's name.

The big question, of course, is what Brennan and the other might be charged with.

MSNBC reports:

Conservative attorney Mike Davis, who advises the White House and the Justice Department, has said in recent weeks that a Florida grand jury will consider whether top Obama and Biden officials engaged in a massive conspiracy to violate Donald Trump’s civil rights through the Russia investigations and the probes by special counsel Jack Smith.

Background

Reports are indicating that this all follows a criminal referral that was sent to the DOJ by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

Recently, U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), as the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, also referred Brennan to the DOJ for criminal prosecution.

In October, the committee issued a press release accusing Brennan of making "numerous willfully and intentionally false statements of material fact" before Congress.

The press release stated:

Brennan's assertion that the CIA was not "involved at all" with the Steele dossier cannot be reconciled with the facts. As newly declassified documents show: A CIA officer drafted the annex containing a summary of the dossier; Brennan made the ultimate decision, along with then-FBI Director James Comey, to include information from the dossier in the ICA; and Brennan overruled senior CIA officers who objected to the inclusion of the dossier material.

It has to be emphasized that, at this point, Brennan has yet to be formally indicted. Rather, the DOJ appears to be getting ready to ask a grand jury whether or not there is sufficient evidence to bring charges against Brennan and others.
