Senate will remain in session until shutdown deal is reached, says Thune
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) is now requiring the upper chamber to remain in session until a deal to end the government shutdown is reached.
The Hill reports that Thune made this announcement on Saturday.
This comes as the shutdown has been going on for some 40 days.

"Yeah"
Thune, according to The Hill, revealed that he is keeping the senate in session to reporters on Saturday.
Per the outlet:
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) told reporters on Saturday that senators will remain in session until a deal is unlocked to reopen the government as the shutdown reached Day 39 with members still far from an agreement. When asked if lawmakers will stay in town until a deal is reached, Thune responded in the affirmative. The upper chamber was scheduled to be out of Washington for recess around Veterans Day, but will instead be in session.
The Senate, over the weekend, worked on reaching a deal to end the shutdown, but it does not appear as though much progress was made.
Newsmax reports:
Democrats on Friday proposed reopening the government immediately via a clean continuing resolution coupled with a one-year extension of enhanced health-insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act and a three-bill "minibus" full-year funding package. Republicans rejected the offer, saying they will not negotiate on the subsidy extension until the government is reopened.
Senators met again on Saturday.
Taking Trump's advice
Thune's decision to force senators to remain in Washington, D.C., until the government is reopened comes after President Donald Trump implored him to take this step.
In a recent social media message, Trump wrote:
The United States Senate should not leave town until they have a Deal to end the Democrat Shutdown. If they can’t reach a Deal, the Republicans should terminate the Filibuster, IMMEDIATELY, and take care of our Great American Workers!
After Thune announced that he is taking Trump's advice by keeping the Senate in session, Trump posted another message, captioned, "This is how to win."
The big question is whether or not Thune is willing to implement the second part of Trump's plan, namely, to end the Senate filibuster if the Democrats remain unwilling to end the shutdown.
Up until now, Thune has seemed to suggest that he is against the idea - or, at least, that his fellow Senate Republicans would not support the idea.
