President Donald Trump just revealed that he is going to give Americans a $2,000 dividend. 

The president, according to Breitbart News, said that this has been made possible by the success of his tarriff strategy.

This comes as the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments major case having to do with whether or not Trump has the authority, as president, to unilaterally pursue such a tariff strategy.

Those "against tarrifs are FOOLS!"

Trump revealed the $2,000 payments in a message that he posted to social media over the weekend.

He wrote:

People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price. 401k’s are Highest EVER. We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion. Record Investment in the USA, plants and factories going up all over the place. A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone.

The president did receive some pushback for the idea, including from many on the political right, arguing that such a payout would only hurt the country economically by increasing inflation.

Trump responded to the criticism, writing:

All money left over from the $2000 payments made to low and middle income USA Citizens, from the massive Tariff Income pouring into our Country from foreign countries, which will be substantial, will be used to SUBSTANTIALLY PAY DOWN NATIONAL DEBT. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT

Clearly, Trump is not worried about the criticism, and he believes that the $2,000 payments are the way to go.

Trump makes his pitch

It was last week that the Supreme Court heard the tarriff authority case. Several outlets are reporting that some of the justices appeared sketpical of the government's arguments.

Fox News, for example, reported:

Justice Amy Coney Barrett had pointed questions Wednesday about the law Donald Trump invoked to impose global tariffs, joining several other justices on the right and left in voicing skepticism about the president’s ability to use a tool he has deemed critical to carrying out his economic agenda.

Trump, for his part, took to social media to continue to make the pitch in favor of a president having such tariff authority.

He wrote:

So, let’s get this straight??? The President of the United States is allowed (and fully approved by Congress!) to stop ALL TRADE with a Foreign Country (Which is far more onerous than a Tariff!), and LICENSE a Foreign Country, but is not allowed to put a simple Tariff on a Foreign Country, even for purposes of NATIONAL SECURITY. That is NOT what our great Founders had in mind! The whole thing is ridiculous! Other Countries can Tariff us, but we can’t Tariff them??? It is their DREAM!!! Businesses are pouring into the USA ONLY BECAUSE OF TARIFFS. HAS THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT NOT BEEN TOLD THIS??? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???President DJT

It is unclear when the Supreme Court will issue its decision, but it is sure to be a consequential one.
