'Fox & Friends' meteorologist Janice Dean stepping back due to health issues
"Fox & Friends" meteorologist and host Janice Dean announced on Wednesday that she would "take a break" from the network while she deals with some health issues.
“I wanted to let you all know that I’m taking a break from work (and social media) for a bit,” she wrote on Facebook.
“I’m ok, but I’ve had some health issues that require rest and time to heal. My bosses at Fox have been kind and understanding, and I feel blessed to be able to take a break to be with my family,” she continued.
She further explained, “The trip to Rome with [husband] Sean was a good place to start healing spiritually, and now I have to get back to feeling healthy and strong. I’ve always been up front and honest about my life, and I felt I owed you an explanation of my absence. But, I will be back. Grateful to you all for the kind words.”
"Beautiful words"
Dean, 55, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2005, but she did not specify what the health issues were and whether they are related to her MS.
She also didn't say how long she would be away from the network.
After fans responded with many well wishes for Dean, she said in a follow-up post, “You guys made me cry! (A good cry!) I promise to get lots of rest and take good care of myself. I appreciate all these beautiful words.”
Dean has not been incapacitated by her MS, as some are. With medication and other treatments, some can live a relatively normal life for a long time with the diagnosis.
Back in 2005, just a year after Dean began working for Fox News, she ended up at the doctor because of overwhelming fatigue and numbness in her thighs and in the soles of her feet.
She has been an outspoken member of the MS community, and has given and received support from other MSers over the years.
She told the New York Post in 2023 that the disease has made her stronger in unexpected ways over the years. "It’s important for me to share my journey so that I can maybe help someone else," she said at the time.
