Journalist Tucker Carlson recently released a documentary in which he did a deep dive on Thomas Crooks, the man who tried to assassinate President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania last year.

According to Carlson, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has not exactly been forthright about the situation.

Carlson, according to the Daily Mail, released the documentary over the weekend.

Foreign ties?

Among other things, Carlson, in the documentary, suggested that Crooks may have had foreign ties.

The Daily Mail reports:

Carlson's uncovered YouTube comments allegedly posted by Crooks from 2019-2020, revealing the shooter's long digital history of making calls for assassinations and political violence. Crooks' YouTube comments indicate he radically shifted his ideology from pro-Trump towards the far left. During the final phase in 2020 of Crook's YouTube commenting, the shooter began interacting with a suspicious user 'Willy_Tepes' who appeared to encourage Crooks to commit political violence.

The outlet goes on to quote Crooks.

It writes:

He wrote to Crooks on August 4, 2020, 'If a gun and a badge is all that is needed, then authority obviously comes from the barrel of a gun. We have more guns than they do ;)' 'There is no way we can avoid a war at this point, so you just better get used to the idea,' he added.

In the documentary, Carlson claims that Tepes is linked to a neo-Nazo group based in Scandinavia - a group that has been designated as a terrorist organization by the United States.

The FBI responds

FBI Director Kash Patel did not take long to respond to Carlson's claims. He did so with a social media post.

Patel began:

Crooks Case Overview: Over 480 FBI employees were involved in the Thomas Crooks investigation. Employees conducted over 1,000 interviews, addressed over 2,000 public tips, analyzed data extracted from 13 seized digital devices, reviewed nearly 500,000 digital files, collected, processed, and synchronized hundreds of hours of video footage, analyzed financial activity from 10 different accounts, and examined data associated with 25 social media or online forum accounts.

As we will see, Patel is using these figures in an attempt to dismiss Carlson's claims.

Patel continues:

The FBI’s investigation into Thomas Crooks identified and examined over 20 online accounts, data extracted from over a dozen electronic devices, examination of numerous financial accounts, and over 1,000 interviews and 2000 public tips. The investigation, conducted by over 480 FBI employees, revealed Crooks had limited online and in person interactions, planned and conducted the attack alone, and did not leak or share his intent to engage in the attack with anyone.
