Sen. Booker becomes the latest Democrat to call for Schumer's ouster
U.S. Sen. Corey Booker (D-NJ) is now the latest Democrat to call for U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer's (D-NY) removal from the senator minority leadership position.
Booker did so in an interview with Fox News Digital.
This all comes after a number of Democrats capitulated to Republicans by voting to reopen the government.
Vice President JD Vance says Chuck Schumer most likely ended his career with the government shutdown:
“Chuck Schumer, this probably ended his career, and he was the person who was fighting more than anybody to keep the government shut down.”

"It's time"
Following the vote to end the government shutdown, Booker wrote, "The Democratic Party needs change. It needs a new generation of leaders to stand up to Trump."
Fox asked Booker whether he was referring to Schumer.
Booker replied:
I'm pointing these comments at anybody who will listen to me. Chuck Schumer's generation, Nancy Pelosi's generation, John Lewis's generation. They have so much to be proud of. It is time, though, for new leadership. The other generations, X, millennials, Z, — it's time for us to step up. The stage is waiting for us to lead, not just the party, but the nation right now.
In other words, Booker does seem to think that it is time for Schumer to go.
Fox notes, "But to date, no Senate Democrat has joined those calls for Schumer to step down." Some House Democratic members, though, have.
Trump and Vance weighs in
Both President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance have commented on the Schumer situation.
Trump said, "I think he made a mistake in going too far. He thought he could break the Republicans, and the Republicans broke him."
Vance, for his part, suggested that Schumer's approach to the recent government shutdown "probably ended" his political career.
Vance, during a recent interview, said:
Oh, of course, privately, we were having conversations all the time and frankly privately the Democrats would recognize the position of their far left was crazy, but they all feel a little bit like they’re being held hostage by their far left. You said it very well — Chuck Schumer, this probably ended his career, and he was the person who was fighting more than anybody to keep the government shut down. So, the far left, they’re never going to be satisfied unless the Democrats are willing to burn down the entire country. Luckily, there were a few moderate Democrats who allowed reason to prevail.
Schumer, during all of this, has been staying out of the public spotlight.
