Earlier this year, President Donald Trump nominated Donald Korb to serve as chief counsel of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Yet in an abrupt reversal, the president has moved to withdraw Korb's nomination after new information has emerged about his background.

Critics cite Korb's close ties with Democrats

As the Daily Caller reported late last week, Trump announced his decision in a Truth Social post, writing, "Please be advised that I am withdrawing the nomination of Donald Korb to be Assistant General Counsel in the Department of the Treasury."

Journalist Eric Daugherty observed in a social media post of his own how conservative activist Laura Loomer highlighted Korb's ties with Democrats.

Specifically, Loomer noted that Korb "praised Chuck Schumer, donated to Democrats, received support from anti-Trump Democrat United States Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, and mistreated IRS whistleblowers."

"Shockingly, Korb once referred to rabid Trump hater Chuck Schumer as 'the guy who can get things done,'" Loomer went on to add.

Korb donated to campaign of former Democratic governor

The Daily Caller observed earlier this month that some Republicans were uncomfortable with the fact that Korb made campaign contributions to Gina Raimondo.

Raimondo served as Rhode Island's Democratic governor from 2015 until 2021 and then went on to become secretary of Commerce under President Joe Biden.

"This will be a problem for Korb," one former Senate Republican chief of staff was quoted as saying. "A top priority for Senate Republicans is crushing the liberal deep state at the IRS."

"Most Senate Republicans are not going to trust a major Gina Raimondo donor to get the job done," the former chief of staff went on to add.

White House source said Korb "would be a disaster"

Meanwhile, a senior Senate counsel also expressed doubts to the Daily Caller about Korb, stating, "The IRS is the most weaponized and politicized agency."

"I don’t think any Republicans in the Senate knew that Korb gave to Biden’s Commerce Secretary. It’s not a good sign at all," the figure stressed.

What's more, an unnamed source said to be close with the Trump administration predicted that having Korb in the IRS "would be a disaster," asserting, "Trump wants to end the weaponization at the IRS, and Korb is simply out of step with his agenda."
