"You’re not a hostage anymore. Today, you’re heroes," the president said.

He added:

It’s an honor to get to know all of you. I know some of you already. I know some of the previous hostages that we got out very well. We love you all, and our country loves you all, and the world is watching and really you’re amazing people.

Videos and pictures from the event are circulating on social media. The event was held in the State Dining Room. It took place in the afternoon, not long after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt concluded her press briefing.

President Trump, according to Breitbart, in addition to the speech, "gave each freed hostage his presidential challenge coin."

"The mission is not yet complete."

Fox News reports that there were 17 hostages, who were freed from the capitivity of Hamas, at the event.

The New York Post identifies some of those in attendance, reporting:

The former hostages who met with Trump and other administration officials included Matan Angrest, Omri Miran, Bar Kuperstein, Nimrod Cohen, Ziv and Gali Berman, Ariel and David Kunio, Matan Zangauker, Ilana Gritzewsky, Guy Gilboa-Dalal, Segev Kalfon, Evyatar David, Eitan and Iair Horn, Yosef-Chaim Ohana, Avinatan Or, Noa Argamani, Eitan Mor and Elkana Bohbot . . .

Fox reports that some of the hostages also present President Trump with a gift.

"Israeli twins Gali and Ziv Berman presented Trump with the original mezuzah from their home in Kfar Aza's Young Generation neighborhood, where they were kidnapped on Oct. 7, 2023," the outlet writes.

It quotes the twins as saying:

We came to thank the President of the United States for the many actions he took toward our release. At the same time, it's important to remember that the mission is not yet complete. There are three deceased hostages still being held in Gaza. Until everyone returns, we cannot begin our rehabilitation as a society and as a nation.
