Trump thinking about axing Patel over jet trips to see country star girlfriend
FBI Director Kash Patel has generated considerable backlash over his jet trips to see girlfriend Alexis Wilkins perform along with other reports of using government resources for personal activities and partying.
It seems like President Donald Trump is reportedly getting tired of the backlash and may be considering replacing him, according to sources who spoke to the Daily Mail.
The sources said that Trump and some of his aides are becoming frustrated over Patel's behavior, which has included assigning a SWAT team to Wilkins for protection.
Lack of judgement or justified response
"The assignment of SWAT-qualified agents to guard his girlfriend are indicative of his lack of leadership experience, judgment and humility," Christopher O'Leary, a former Marine and lead FBI agent for a high risk team, told MS Now earlier in the month.
"There is no legitimate justification for this. This is a clear abuse of position and misuse of government resources,' O'Leary added.
"She is not his spouse, does not live in the same house or even the same city."
But the bureau said that Wilkins had received hundreds of death threats related to her relationship with Patel and that the protection was warranted.
"Ms. Wilkins is receiving a protective detail because she has faced hundreds of credible death threats related to her relationship with Director Patel, whom she has been dating for three years," a spokesperson told the Daily Mail. "Out of respect for her safety, we will not be providing additional details."
The replacement
Patel would be replaced by top FBI official Andrew Bailey, if they decide to pull the trigger on axing him.
Bailey was only installed in September as the co-deputy director of the bureau to help out a struggling Dan Bongino.
He would have to serve in that position for 90 days before he could become acting FBI director without Senate confirmation, and he will hit that date on December 15.
"Made up"
But despite what the sources said, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt denied on X that Trump was frustrated with Patel, calling it "completely made up."
As evidence, she showed a picture of the two that she said was taken in the Oval Office on Tuesday.
Leavitt said that Trump reacted to the report about his frustration being published by saying, "What? That's totally false. Come on Kash, let's take a picture to show them you're doing a great job!"
